One of my favourite pieces of work I have done is a logo for a startup business called Kingfisher Cakes. They're based in Northern Ireland, with all of their cakes being home made and custom creating a more personalised touch.
As I wanted to make sure I was pleasing the client I got a rough idea of what they were after. They envisioned a logo of a bird flying while holding a spoon, while this has the potential of being a good design I wouldn't say its effective as you'd only be seeing it as a small Instagram icon.
As I knew the client was only going to be using the logo on social media I decided, a circular logo might work best as it will fit dimensions and I'd be developing it in a way that would work for Instagram. To get inspiration for this idea I focused on looking at pictures of Kingfisher birds, and the colours of their feathers. This is what motivated me to create the logo using only feathers, relying heavily on gradients to translate the vast shades of blue/orange.
My idea proved effective and was simply finished off with typography.
My client was happy with the work I had done, and even had stickers with the design printed.
